I’m Dave Steinberger and I’d like you to read my thoughts and share yours, so let me start by telling you a little bit about myself. I’m a 42 year old former New Yorker, now living in the Bay Area. I’ve been working in the media and advertising business for the past 20 years, the last 14, on the Internet.
I’m a contrarian by nature. If everyone is doing it one way, I’m inclined to question it. The status quo seems safe to some, but to me, it’s just the opposite. Personally, I think George Costanza was on to something.
I’m a pop psychologist and pop economist, which when put together, probably explains why I’ve been fascinated by advertising and marketing most of my life. And when you throw in a healthy dose of questioning the status quo, you get the theme of this blog.
I’m a big fan of Seth Godin’s latest book, Tribes. I agree with him completely about one of the most fundamental strengths of the Internet: the opportunity to share a passion, to create a movement, to change the world.
And I’m also an entreprenuer. So I’m thinking about ways that we can change the advertising world. The status quo is that money flows from advertisers to media companies, not consumers. I’d like to do the opposite.
Oh, and as you can see from the photo, I’m also a proud dad. My wife and I have two wonderful daughters who are already punching the ‘consumer’ clock. I watch in amazement as they identify corporate logos and demand the branded clothing and toys. The meter is running on how much value they are creating in the advertising economy.
So that’s a bit about me. I’d love to hear from you. My email is ourseatatthetable at gmail dot com.
